Mars is now in Scorpio where it will remain until Jan 27th – the perfect time for us to work out some money mindset stuff over the financially stressful Christmas season! Yay! You see, Scorpio (and its ruling planet Pluto), rules money owed – so things like taxes, inheritances and the icky-feeling stuff like bills and debts.
I know, I know, not exactly the big juicy riches that you wanted to hear about, right?
But these things are essentially the ‘low vibe’ side of money, and so it’s important for us to figure them out, so we can clear space for the ‘high vibe’ abundance type stuff to flow in.
Transforming our negative money mindset
Scorpio is the sign of deep transformation. It is the only sign that has three different animal totems to represent it: the scorpion, the eagle and the phoenix, which each represent the different stages of enlightenment.
The scorpion is the lowest, energetically, it is frightened and angry and lets its emotions and fears drive it into hiding or attacking, this is the guy who penny pinches and is afraid he’ll never have enough, yet won’t aim for more and just blames his circumstances for his lack of abundance.
The eagle, on the other hand, is in control, soaring high above with self-awareness and intellect, she’s got everything she needs, and she knows the earth will provide more, but it is the phoenix that represents the highest level of Scorpio energy.
The phoenix is the transformation – rising from the ashes of its own destruction. This type of Scorpio is aware of their incredible powers of healing and regeneration and uses them for good – though it has had to go through hell to get there!
So, when Mars is in Scorpio, we’ll be forced to transform in our goal-setting, ambitions and physical energy.
In regards to money, this means we’ve got to get clear on a few things.
What is your money mindset around debt?
These nasty money things we mentioned earlier are some people’s worst nightmares.
When you’re in debt, whether that’s from credit cards, tax bills, rent or loans, you basically have minus money. It’s even worse than zero! No wonder we all squirm about it, we are contracted to give something we don’t have!
I’ve been in debt, my family has been in debt, heck, I’m still paying off a huge student loan that feels like it will never go away. I even get a letter once a year to remind me of how much interest I’m paying on my education: not exactly the most positive experience!
It’s easy to get caught up in the narrative of lack: “it’s not fair”, “I shouldn’t have to pay interest on education”, “the world is corrupt”, “I’ll never have enough”, “it’s not my fault”.
And all of these are totally valid statements. But they’re also wayyyyyy damaging to my money-making mojo.
All those negative statements stem from fear and lack. Two things that really don’t attract wealth.
I mentioned some of these icky money topics before in my Jupiter in Scorpio article, and it’s important that we get over the fear of things like paying our taxes or bills, because this fear sends a message to our subconscious that we don’t like dealing with money and we never have enough.
Don’t fear the taxman
“He looks the whole world in the face for he owes not any man.”- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
When we have debts, we feel enslaved, we didn’t have enough in the first place and now there is a heavy chain around our necks with minus numbers on, preventing us from being free.
We dread paying the debt back and doubt our ability to make enough to cover it. By thinking like this, we block our money-making mojo.
Some of us assume that we’re just unlucky in money, but that in itself is a self-fulfilling prophesy, just like the girl who proclaims herself “unlucky in love” has probably become too self-depreciating to talk to anyone in the first place.
It actually just comes down to fear of not-having.
We want enough money, just like we want love, but we also deeply fear not having these things.
So instead of thinking “I’m gonna get me some of that love money stuff – there’s no harm in trying!” we set our sights real low and just assume it’s not going to happen.
When you set limits on how much you think you can earn, you’ll probably only earn that much.
When you tell yourself you’ll never meet someone, you’re unlikely to put yourself out there.
Then what happens is you get bitter about it, and people who have that thing you want.
You resent the guys that reject you romantically, without thinking about the fact that they were probably very wrong for you.
You resent having to pay bills and taxes and debts because you’re scared of not having enough, and you blame it on the system (which no doubt is pretty fucked, I’ll give you that, but what are you gonna do sitting at home moaning about it?)
Don’t hate the player. Don’t even hate the game.
You need to start playing that game. Winning on your own terms. Hustling for what you want.
Don’t look at rich people and think “oh they’re privileged, I bet they’ve never been in debt/been through what I have”. You don’t know that. It doesn’t help.
You can have it all too. If you just change your mind.
In my previous article on money mindsets, I talked about how a lot of us wish for more money, without realising that we actually hate the stuff.
We fear and loathe having to deal with money, which is understandable when you’ve had money problems, it’s natural to want to avoid that pain, but this attitude doesn’t help our ability to make money in the long run.
(Oh Biggie, it may be a tune, but this money mindset won’t help us!)
So, how can Mars in Scorpio help our negative money mindsets?
Mars is now in Scorpio until the end of January (27th) and what a great time to be shifting a negative money mindset, naaaat!
Christmas and the holiday season are crazy heavy on our bank accounts, and many of us will reach for the credit card to bridge the gaps, then spend the rest of January trying to pay it back.
Just imagine this for a second:
You only borrow what you can pay back, and you pay it back with neutral emotions and gratitude. It is money you spent, so you are thankful. You always have enough, and you will receive more.
Does that sound like your thought process when paying off your credit card bill or annual tax return? …Nope, I didn’t think so.
You see, I’ve often dreaded the holiday season, I still do to a certain extent. Of course, it’s a wonderful festive family time, but financially, it’s crazy.
There’s always some event to go to, some present to buy, some bills to pay, and each year it seems to get worse. Then January rolls around and it’s tax time!
All I tend to hear in January is an echo chamber of “I’m broke”, “I’m sad”, “January sucks”, which it does, kinda, well around the UK anyway, it’s cold and bleak and expensive.
“Christmas is the season when you buy this year’s gifts with next year’s money.” – Unknown.
But how the f**k is that mindset going to help you improve your finances? I tell you, it really isn’t. Not even a little bit.
In true transformative spirit, I urge you to use this potentially painful financial time to look at your attitudes towards the money you owe, or the money that is owed to you.
How much do you think you deserve?
Do you think your finances can change?
What are you doing to change them?
Look at your backstory:
Were there any times you saw your family struggle?
How did that make you feel?
Could you forgive all that and let it go?
What would your new mindset look like?
Aim higher, like the eagle. Rise from the ashes of financial stress and soar like the phoenix.
Get to grips on what it is exactly that makes you feel like you can’t do this, and remember that money is only neutral, it is neither good nor bad, probably depending on whether you have it or not.
So, if you need more, hating on it probably isn’t going to help.
And if you feel like you never have enough, hiding from it all won’t make your situation better.
Get out a pen and paper, and answer the questions above.
Then when you come to pay your taxes or your bills, do it with thanks, that you had the fortune to receive those goods or services in the first place.
The more you give thanks, the more you receive.
When you receive more, you can stop owing.
When you stop owing, you can be free.
When you are free, you are powerful.
